Cosmetic Benefits of a Breast Reduction
Will I need a breast lift after a breast reduction?
When I do consultations for a breast reduction, many patients ask if they will also need a breast lift. A breast lift is actually part of a breast reduction.
A breast reduction is frequently covered by your insurance. If breasts are too large and heavy, they can cause back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, bra strap grooves, rashes under the breasts, etc. Because of this, many insurance companies consider a breast reduction to be medically necessary.
But, there are cosmetic improvements too. During a breast reduction, breast tissue is removed to make the breasts smaller and lighter. At the same time, the nipple is moved up to a better position, and much of the breast tissue that falls below the crease is removed. So, the breasts look perkier and more youthful after a breast reduction. It also makes you look smaller all over. After a breast reduction, most patients have their friends ask them if they lost weight. When your breasts are too big, it can make you look heavier than you are.
